A 2025 budget proposal backed by 170 House Republicans would nix a universal free school lunch program. Only nine states provide free school lunch to all students right now. The budget aims to reform school lunch subsidies by eliminating the "community eligibility provision" from the federal School Lunch Program. The proposed RSC Budget would eliminate that provision to ensure school lunch provisions go to only "truly needy households," the report says. ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York’s bipartisan redistricting commission approved a new congressional map Thursday that makes modest changes to three competitive districts but does not substantially change the rest of the state's lines. New York's congressional redistricting process has been closely watched this year as suburban races in the state could have outsize influence on which party controls the House after the November elections. The redistricting commission was tasked with coming up with new districts after the state's highest court in December threw out the map used in the 2022 elections. The panel's new map plan leaves the most of the current congressional districts largely in place, a move that could help head off legal challenges against the proposal. The Independent Redistricting Commission was created under a constitutional amendment approved by voters in 2014.

Airline investors have reason to grab the barf bag

NEW YORK, Dec 4 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Lately, when airlines suggest a thrilling deal, investors are left feeling queasy. Look at Alaska Air (ALK.N), whose shares cratered 15% on Monday after announcing the acquisition of struggling Hawaiian (HA.O). As happened when first Frontier (ULCC.O) and JetBlue Airways (JBLU.O) bid for Spirit Airlines (SAVE.N) in 2022, though, the buyer’s shareholders are balking. But it suggests that, by tying up, smaller airlines risk combining their woes. The deal comes as a lawsuit by the Department of Justice looking to block the merger of Spirit Airlines and JetBlue Airways heads to closing arguments on Dec. 5.

Thanksgiving may be a time for Americans to come together, but opinion is divided over what's on the crowded dinner table. We mostly agree on the deliciousness of pumpkin pie, say, but are split over the eternal turkey question of dark meat versus white meat. Americans 45 or older are especially likely to call turkey the best thing on the Thanksgiving table (39%), while younger adults who agree come in at 24%. One-third of U.S. adults who will celebrate Thanksgiving say that's their preferred dessert. If you're preparing for an upcoming job interview, one thing you can nix from your prep work is doing extensive research to find a personal connection with your interviewer. Trying to flatter or relate to the interviewer based on shared experiences, like where they went to school or their previous employer, is one of the most overrated pieces of job-interview advice, according to Natalie Norfus, a George Washington University-trained lawyer turned recruiter who's interviewed hundreds. "When people say, 'make sure you look up everything about the person you're interviewing with,' I always thought that was a little creepy," Norfus tells CNBC Make It. She remembers getting that advice as a law student interviewing for jobs while in school, "and it always seemed like such an odd thing to be like, 'Yeah, I see you went to GW and I also went to GW.' "I don't think it's important that you need to show someone that you researched them," she adds.
